Mary’s Shrimp Creole

SHRIMP CREOLE:

1/2 c. Chopped onion
1/2 c. Chopped celery
1/2 c. Chopped green pepper
2  Minced garlic cloves
2Tbs. Olive oil
1-1#   Can petite diced tomatoes with juice
1-8oz. Can tomato sauce
1t.    Salt (I use Kosher salt)
1Tb    Sugar
1 t.   Chili powder ( more or less to taste)
1&1/2 t. Worchestershire sauce
Dash hot sauce
1#   Raw shrimp
 
Sauté onion, celery, green pepper and garlic in olive oil till tender, not brown.  Add, tomatoes, tomato sauce,salt, sugar, chili powder, and Worchestersauce.  Simmer uncovered 45 minutes.  If you want a thicker sauce, mix 2 tbs. cornstarch with 2 tbs. cold water, stir into sauce.  Add shrimp and cover, simmer about 5 minutes till the shrimp turns pink.

Serve brown rice.

Serves 6 depending on moderate eaters!!!
